Is OpenThatPack legit? My experience opening packs online

By Sebastiaan ·

This article contains an affiliate link (marked). I only write about what I use myself.

Is OpenThatPack legit? A lot of people ask. My answer is yes, and I say that from experience. I open packs there myself, and the cards I had shipped are sitting at my home. Below: how it works, what I pulled and what to watch out for.

What is OpenThatPack?

OpenThatPack lets you open booster packs online, including Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and One Piece. You buy a pack and open it on screen right away. The cards you pull are real: they come from OpenThatPack's inventory and land in your own vault on the site.

Then you decide per card:

  • Keep and ship. Collect cards in your vault and have them shipped whenever you like.
  • Sell back. Eligible cards can be sold back for site credit, which you can use to open more packs.

My experience: the cards really arrive

I have had cards shipped several times. From $100 in value, shipping is free, including to the Netherlands. According to the site, import duties and VAT are already covered. I paid nothing extra on delivery.

And the condition? Everything I have received so far was Near Mint to Mint. There are even genuine PSA 10 candidates among them; the results will follow in an update to this article.

The best part: yesterday I pulled my number 1 card there, the Charizard ex full art from the 151 set (MEW 199).

My best pulls

Besides the Charizard, these are the kind of cards I pulled. The two Pikachu ex cards from 30th Celebration belong together: one is set by day, the other at night.

What to watch out for

  • It is still chance. You never know what you will pull. On average a pack is worth less than you pay for it, online or in a store. Set a budget beforehand and stick to it.
  • Site credit is not cash. Selling back gives you credit on the site, which you cannot withdraw.
  • Everything is in dollars. Convert prices to your own currency before you buy.
  • Ship in one go. Save up until you are over $100 and shipping is free.
  • Read the terms. Before your first deposit, check exactly how selling back and shipping work.

Verdict

For me, OpenThatPack is legit. I open packs there, the cards actually arrive and shipping is free once you are over $100. If you enjoy opening packs but do not want to keep going to a store, give it a try. Start small and set a budget.

Want to track what your cards are worth? I use Cardex for that.
